Flooring Maintenance - Wood/ Laminate
The simple rules for wood or laminate are prevention, always have a barrier mat
at the front and back door, this takes off any grit/dirt and dries feet. Never get
floor too wet ie. Don't wash as you would a ceramic floor, as water will get into
the joints and cause the wood to swell and lift. Use a mop and recommended cleaner
and ring the mop out so no water is dripping. If the floor does get wet dry with
a cloth immediately or use a dry mop and wipe to clean.
You must put felt pads under chair legs and any other furniture that may scratch
the floor. All floors will scratch to a less or greater degree. If the scratch is
particularly bad you can do small repairs with wax fillers or if very bad you can
sand and re-lacquer floor (real wood). Most laminates you can replace boards.
